The online program is based on the book A Child’s History of the World, by Calvert School’s first Head Master, Virgil Hillyer. Originally published in 1924, it has been revised over the years.
A Child’s History of the World Online Enrichment is an interactive multimedia history program appropriate for ages 9 and up. World history is brought to life through 91 short and entertaining stories based on events from the Stone Age to the present, told in a warm, easy-to-understand manner. The stories include text, original art, original music, and opportunities for student interaction. Stories are followed by review questions and games that are computer-scored.
The online program enhances the text with hundreds of illustrations and pronunciations of many unfamiliar names and words. The online program can be used in a structured fashion as a collection of history lessons or freely browsed for enrichment and entertainment.
The online program contains all 91 stories from the most recent edition of the text. The Story Finder feature allows the student to select a story from the table of contents, the globe, or the timeline. Each story begins and ends with an animated character reading a passage from the book. Each story consists of four or five main screens. From a main screen, the student follows prompts leading to text, pictures, and animations essential to the story. A review follows each story. There are four types of review games and one quiz. Student scores are rated by the computer, and games may be replayed.
It's a perfect complement to A Child's History of the World textbook.
