Pennsylvania Homeschool Support Groups
Homeschool support groups in your state are an excellent way to gain more assistance and guidance in your homeschooling endeavors. A regional support group fosters a wonderful sense of community among homeschooling families and allows for more opportunities to exchange ideas, plan group outings, and share in the overall experience of homeschooling! While Calvert supports the development of community among homeschool families, this list does not constitute affiliation between Calvert School and the groups represented below.
CATHOLIC HOMESCHOOLERS OF PENNSYLVANIA
The original function of this network was connecting families together. An effort, which began with five families in January of 1993, has developed into a growing network of hundreds of Catholic families in Pennsylvania. Besides connecting families together in the same area, families who are homeschooling under unusual circumstances can be linked together.
CHRISTIAN HOME SCHOOL ASSOCIATION OF PENNSYLVANIA (CHAP)
CHAP exists to support and encourage home educators. It is a distinctly Christian organization with a statement of faith. CHAP seeks to nurture education that is Christian, and supports education that is in harmony with Judeo-Christian principles.
PENNSYLVANIA HOME EDUCATION NETWORK (PHEN)
PHEN is an incorporated, nonprofit, tax-exempt, statewide organization of home-educating families. PHEN exists to promote freedom and simplicity in home education; to serve all families who educate their children at home regardless of race, religion, creed, sex, national origin, handicap, or educational philosophy; and to inform the general public about home education. Membership is open to all Pennsylvania residents who agree with the organization's inclusive philosophy. The Network is directed by a council of members who volunteer and who make decisions by consensus.
PENNSYLVANIA HOME EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION (PHEA)
PHEA is an inclusive statewide coalition of home educators whose primary purpose is to provide accurate information and advocate for Pennsylvania home educators.
PITTSBURGH EAST SUBURBAN HOMESCHOOLERS' ASSOCIATION (PESHA)
PESHA is a nonprofit organization of homeschooling families. Founded in 1987, PESHA is now one of the oldest existing homeschooling support group associations in the southwestern Pennsylvania area. We are a family-oriented, Bible-honoring group, dedicated to providing information, support, Christian fellowship, and networking for the entire family through our evening meetings, field trips, and other events.
Our adult programs feature information and teachings on homeschooling-related topics. Our children's programs are suitable for children ages 5–18. They provide fun, educational opportunities that help fulfill homeschooling requirements. We also feature a "Teen Room" where board games and snacks are shared under adult supervision.
YORK HOME SCHOOL ASSOCIATION, INC. (YHSA)
YHSA is a Christian support group, and it strives through all efforts to bring glory to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as prescribed in the Nicene Creed.
The mission of YHSA is to encourage excellence and integrity in homeschooling. YHSA exists to serve the interests of parents educating their children at home under Act 169, the Pennsylvania Home Education Law of 1988; this does not include those enrolling their children in cyber or charter schools, which are part of the government school system in Pennsylvania.
YHSA is a volunteer-run ministry. Through the involvement and effort of all of its member families, YHSA can provide encouragement and resources for families, assist new homeschoolers, and provide academic and social interaction with other parents and children with similar concerns and educational goals.
