Fourth Grade Homeschool Curriculum
Calvert's Fourth Grade Homeschool Curriculum is exciting as students compose original compositions. The Reading curriculum relies on classic children’s literature and poetry, with lessons designed to increase comprehension, appreciation, and analysis.
Calvert is now offering two choices for Math: Our classic Calvert Math introduces students to statistics and prime numbers this year. In Math in Focus, students find the symmetry and rotational symmetry of shapes as well as create and identify tessellations.
Foundations of Science and Technology
The Science program covers life science and physical science units such as electricity and magnetism. In integrated technology lessons, students learn to use spreadsheets and create tables, charts, and graphs, skills that will be applied in the general curriculum.

A Review of Calvert's Fourth Grade Curriculum
This was our first year homeschooling, and I have no teaching experience. I could not have chosen a better curriculum. Everything I felt was missing from public school was provided by Calvert, especially in developing my children's writing and organization skills. We used the ATS service, which was extremely helpful, especially in evaluating writing--which I think I would have graded too harshly, without Calvert's help. I also liked the ATS because it forces you to stay on track and accountable, and when finished, a transcript is available.
Calvert is definitely "school at home" which doesn't work for everyone, but it was great for us. My kids had been in private and public school since Kindergarten. Their adjustment was quite easy, and we were all amazed at the quality of the content. My ds is a gifted student, and he enjoyed learning subjects in the detail he craved, but public school only glossed over.
Finally, it is very complete. If you do every subject you never have to worry about gaps, or if your state requires it, acceptable "progress" on a standardized test. Most subjects are interestingly presented--the 4th grade world history text is exceptional. Although I admit to looking around at other curricula more than halfway through, in the end I decided Calvert is the most complete, quality education I can offer at home. And frankly, I just couldn't part with that legendary lesson manual--I'm a "box-checker" personality, and I felt confident we did enough work each day. Calvert removes the anxiety and the question of "did we do enough?"
I highly recommend Calvert to any first timer, because of their support and the Lesson Manual. It teaches you to teach with confidence. Maybe the next year you could veer off on a more creative path, but if you're like me, you'll stay with it for peace of mind and the knowledge that they're getting a great education. Good luck.
